Take the Plunge - Beginner Dancer...

Plucking up the courage to join a dance class can be quite challenging for most people. You may have concerns about how you conduct yourself on the dance floor? Will you experience any difficulty learning? Rest assured everybody has these feelings at first, you are not alone. Dancing is a fabulous hobby with many benefits, all the teachers taking the beginner classes at the Anglo are brilliant with their classes. Everyone attending the class will be a beginner on the same level as you, you will learn together.

Dancing is supposed to be fun! If you have a good instructor he or she will help you realise this from the very first lesson or class.
Dancing is supposed to be a casual activity. As above dancing is fun, there are no formal introductions, just step up to a partner introduce yourself on first name basis and away you go. There is no friendlier other sport or hobby.

No special clothes or outfits are required, whilst you are learning you may dress however you like, no fancy outfits are needed. To start with trainers are also fine but as you progress you may wish to purchase a pair of dance shoes. Most importantly make sure you are comfortable with what you are wearing.

Dancing is considered a close contact sport, be careful with belt buckles, jewellery or any sharp objects that may harm another dancer or yourself.

Physical exercise and sometimes nerves whilst learning can lead to perspiration. Be kind enough to use appropriate deodorant and avoid embarrassment.

Try to avoid consuming any alcohol before a class or lesson it won’t do you any favours.

Gents, be careful with the ladies you will have strength and weight advantages and they won’t like it if you treat them rough. Let them enjoy it too and you will both see the advantages of dancing quicker.

Listen to your instructor, it will help you learn faster and in turn boast the confidence of the class.

If you miss a step or don’t understand what is being taught let your instructor know he or she will be more than happy to help.

Feelings of shyness or embarrassment will soon pass just try to follow instruction and you will be dancing without worrying before you know it.
Dancing should be relaxing, Take it easy! There’s no hard work involved take it at your own pace and most importantly enjoy it!

Make sure you are on time to every class it’s not fair on others if they have to wait for you.

The Ideal Fitness Activity... Walking?

In an ideal world you’d be able to eat all you wanted, do as little exercise as you felt like and move around just by flicking a switch.

And if you chose to sit in front of the TV all day stuffing yourself with cakes and ice creams, it wouldn’t make the slightest difference to the way you looked or how you felt.

In an ideal world, you wouldn’t have to worry about your lifestyle. You’d look and feel great all the time.

Meanwhile, in the real world, huge numbers of adults and children are obese or overweight. According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Sciences, heart disease kills nearly one million people every year.

There are many reasons for this. The time spent watching TV is just one. Working for long periods at a computer and an increasing reliance on the car are others.

And if, like many, you know you’re not as active as you should be, you may come out in a cold sweat every time the dreaded word ‘exercise’ is mentioned.

But here’s the thing, you don’t need to worry. There is an activity you know only too well that offers the perfect solution to being unfit. It’s called walking!

Just imagine for a moment what the ideal fitness plan would look like:

  • It would be easy to do and enjoyable for its own sake
  • It would provide a wide range of health benefits like:
    • Reducing the risks of heart disease, diabetes and minor illnesses
    • Controlling or reducing your weight
    • Reducing your blood pressure
    • Reducing your risk of injury
    • Reducing stress and improving your sleep
    • Improving your posture
  • It would be cheap and wouldn’t involve the purchase of lots of equipment
  • It would be flexible enough to adapt to the time you have available
  • It would put you in control of your body and your life.

Walking is all of the above. It’s the ideal solution to the problem of inactivity.

It can be your solution.

You can stop your body going into further decline just by walking a bit more each day. All you have to do is increase the amount of walking you already do on an average day to 21 minutes (or 30 minutes over 5 days a week).

Then you need to do it regularly, making it part of your daily routine.

And that’s all it takes to achieve a basic level of fitness!

The wonderful thing about walking for fitness is that you can do it anywhere: at home, in the gym, in your local neighborhood or, for the more adventurous, in the great outdoors.

And it’s all free.

You were made for walking. Make it what you do best and make your body your best friend!

In the real world, walking can get you fit. It’s the ideal way to survive fitness.

So what are you waiting for? Get walking!

Diet & Exercise - The results you should aim to achieve...

Everyone by now should realise that diet plays a tremendous role in ones life especially if they are trying to keep an exercise routine. If you want to achieve results then you must define your goals and keep on track of it, it’s all too easy to lose track and slump back into your bad habits again. Results for most people mean dropping a jean size, lift more on the weights or simply build stamina. More importantly I think people should aim for much simpler results, such as emotional pride, internal and external health. These results may not come instantly but over time if you follow your routine they will all play a part in your general well being.

Emotional

Its no secret, healthy people have a huge advantage not only do they feel good, they look good, have high levels of confidence and self esteem and better equipped at dealing with stress. Emotional feelings should be a top priority there’s nothing more important than a positive outlook on life. By following a simple routine you can achieve what ever you set your mind to, change your life for the better today.

Internal (Results your body will thank you for.)

Our bodies are extremely complex systems and there are many ways in which they convey early warning signs to us, however in modern day life we tend to disregard these signs favouring prescription drugs as and when physical symptoms appear. By simply exercising and eating a balanced diet you can achieve lower blood pressure, decrease body fats which in turn helps cholesterol levels.

External

Last but not least the main incentive for most people to consider getting into shape. When you walk along the beach in the summer wouldn’t it be nice to have a toned body? However these are the results you will be accustomed to achieving because you can physically notice the difference. Numbers on the scales dropping, pants fitting looser these should be massive plus points for anyone who is trying to achieve a better lifestyle. These results are easier to achieve but without the internal and emotional gains above you will tend to lose focus and fall back into your old ways after time, I ask you to focus on emotional and internal results and see what you can achieve.

The outside results may stimulate you in the beginning, but it is the inside out approach that keeps you going.
